Job Summary
- Welds shell plating, fabricated cast or forged components according to specifications for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Qualifications Standards
- Previous experience or training is required
- Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in the three positions
- Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal.Must be able to work at heights, confined spaces, and any assigned shift
- Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English)
Essential Job Tasks
- Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.
- Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape and groove metal.
- May prepare workplace for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
- Examines weld sizes of weld beads.
- Cleans weld area; sweeps and removes scrap.
- Other job duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade.

Physical/Mental Involvement
- Frequent to continuous lifting of welding equipment.
- Standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, seeing, hearing and occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, crawling through small openings and working in reclined positions, as needed.Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships.
- Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions.
- Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee's work area.
PAY:
- Up to $25/hour
- $22/hour w/ Per Diem available for Non Local Applicants
