Job Overview:
Assist with installation, maintenance and repair of marine diesel engines electrical systems for propulsion and power generator systems. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures for marine diesel engine control system.
Qualifications:
- The Marine Diesel electrician must have knowledge of diesel engine electrical control systems
- US citizenship or US permanent residence status
- Ability to travel frequently both in the US and internationally
- Ability to comprehend electrical technical drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the testing and repair of electrical components
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Understanding of safety and security requirements and procedures
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as shipboard electrician
- Experience working on US Navy vessels (preferred)
Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties):
- Repair, install, replace, and test electrical control circuits, wiring harnesses and engine auxiliary equipment.
- Uses hand, power tools and electrical testing equipment.
- Inspect and use testing electrical equipment, control signals, and power circuits.
- Troubleshoot and repair defects in wiring harnesses, sensors, switches, connectors and other electrical equipment using basic and specialized testing equipment.
- Replace faulty sensors, switches, sockets, connectors and other elements of electrical systems.
- Documents procedures and results in written reports.
- Interpret drawings, blueprints, connection and wiring diagrams.
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures;
- Provide guidance to entry level electricians.
- Perform complex electrical work on board US Navy Ships.
- Performs operational test of shipboard propulsion, generation, and auxiliary systems
- Reports and corrects potentially unsafe conditions; ensure use of equipment and materials properly.
- Completes incident investigations in a timely manner.
- The work is typically performed in a shipboard or shipyard environment which requires proper safety equipment and precautions.
- Work requires some physical effort in the handling of heavy (<50 lbs.) materials, boxes, tools or equipment.
Skills and Competencies:
The Marine Diesel electrician must exhibit the capacity to manage a small group of technicians. Therefore, a capacity to motivate and discipline individuals as required to achieve Project Goals and Objectives is imperative. Personal competencies must include strong time management skills complemented by the ability to prioritize resolving issues/activities. You must have working knowledge of marine vessels and the ability to train others. Multitasking capability is a necessity of the job. The candidate must have extensive knowledge and a background of diesel engines operation that is included: routine electrical systems maintenance, control system troubleshooting and repair, demonstration and testing of engines sensors for alarms safety shutdowns
