Job Description

Qualifications:
  • 7 years of maritime experience in trade
  • Must be able to obtain a dbids advise if they have in hand
  • All safety training including firewatch
  • Technical training preferred
  • Must be able to work effectively with others
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow simple instructions
  • Must be able to read marine blueprints
  • Must have own tools
  • Hands on experience with dry docks, rudders, propellers, stabilizers and thrusters
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the following:
    • Vessel Repair Specifications
    • NAVSEA Standard Items
    • Coast Guard Specifications
    • Machinery’s Handbook
  • Must be able to use precision measurement tools
  • Must be able to effectively confer job related information to the structural supervisor and small groups, and provide technical guidance to co-workers
  • Must be able to interpret drawings, sketches, tech manuals, and user manuals to the extent necessary to remove, repair, and install equipment
  • Must understand the NAVSEA standard items, especially 009-04 for tests, inspections, and check points; 009-23 for interferences; and 009-24 for blanking and match marks
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of Lock-out / Tag-out procedures
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, job specifications, instruction manuals, manufacturer’s handbooks, change orders, and contract specifications
  • Technically proficient in tasks, work processes, and equipment operation
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Disassemble various types of equipment and machinery common to maritime vessels and/or general industry including but not limited to pumps, valves, winches, gear boxes
  • Assist in determining repairs as required to bring equipment to rebuilt status
  • Complete layouts and templates from equipment aboard ship
  • Determine and apply system tolerances
  • Proficient at setup and operation of drill presses
  • Apply knowledge of materials including but not limited to bronze, brass, steels (mild and heat-treated), and stainless steels in fabrication and repairs
  • Properly care for and safely uses hand and power tools and all company property
  • Comply with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures
  • Overhaul, maintenance, testing of pumps, valves, turbines, condensers, shafts, rudders, winches
  • Layout passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections, such as shafting and steam lines
  • Install mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic steering controls, propulsion controls
  • Install below-deck auxiliaries, such as evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers and connects them to steam pipe systems
  • Remove, repair, modify or overhaul various types of marine shipboard equipment and systems such as valves, pumps, hydraulics, turbines, reductions gears, generators, anchor windlass and steering gears
  • Setup and operate portable machining tools and equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair a variety of mechanical equipment may include ANSI pumps, various types of compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, extruders, mixers, agitators, and blenders
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Understand and act upon instruction / work independently to complete responsibilities
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance
  • Accountable for completion of daily work assignments in safety, quality, schedule, and budget
