You’ll cut, form, fit, and assemble precision components using advanced fabrication and welding techniques—meeting strict NAVSEA, MIL-SPEC, shipyard, and high-spec industrial standards. You’ll interpret complex blueprints, work with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and specialty metals, and ensure every assembly meets contract requirements, safety regulations, and quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret and work from complex fabrication blueprints, drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications to ensure accuracy in layout and assembly
- Cut, form, fit, and assemble metal components using advanced fabrication techniques, including shearing, bending, rolling, drilling, grinding, and welding
- Work with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and specialty metals to produce components meeting NAVSEA, MIL-SPEC, shipyard, and industrial standards
- Perform precise layout and measurement using calipers, micrometers, squares, and other precision tools to maintain tight tolerances
- Fit and align components using clamps, jigs, and fixtures to ensure structural integrity and dimensional accuracy
- Execute welding operations (MIG, TIG, or other processes as required) to complete assemblies to specification
- Conduct in-process inspections and collaborate with quality control to verify compliance with drawings, tolerances, and visual inspection criteria
- Troubleshoot and correct fabrication issues to maintain workflow and product quality
- Collaborate with leads, supervisors, and fellow fabricators to maintain shop flow and meet production schedules and project deadlines
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, safe, and operational condition
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in fabrication efficiency, quality, and shop safety practices
- Mentor junior team members as needed to promote craftsmanship and quality standards
Required Skills & Experience
- 2+ years of metal fabrication experience in a defense, shipyard, or industrial environment
- Proficiency in cutting, forming, fitting, and welding processes (MIG, TIG, and/or flux core)
- Skilled in working with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and specialty metals (copper alloys, brass/bronze)
- Proficient in the use of fabrication tools, machines, and measuring equipment
- Understanding of weld tolerances, quality inspection criteria, and compliance documentation
- Experience meeting NAVSEA, NNS, MIL-SPEC, or equivalent defense/industrial standards
- Strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and adherence to safety practices
- Completion of a fabrication trade school, apprenticeship, or relevant military training preferred
- AWS or NAVSEA/NNS welding qualification is a plus
