The Welders are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality and in a professional manner.
- Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.
- Welding on a wide variety of materials, using an ever-growing number of welding processes.
- Welding structural assemblies using GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW processes
- Use of tools such as grinders, burr tools, wire brushes, etc.
- Oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon/arc gouging as well as verifying weld size using weld gauges
- Reading and interpretation of weld symbols, technique sheets, and work packages
- Additional tasks as assigned
Required:
- Ability to pass required weld tests under NAVSEA 248
- 5 years of on-the-job welding experience
- Must have good knowledge of ship board spaces.
- Basic knowledge of weld power source.
- Familiarity with manual and/or semi-automatic welding processes
- Must demonstrate an understanding of the material in a classroom setting. This will include an open book test (timed), and must be familiar with drawings, basic weld symbols and possess strong academic and comprehension skills to include the following:
- Basic blueprint reading (must identify specific items on a drawing, assembly, and frames).
- An understanding of basic weld symbols (must be able to identify the “all around” symbol, fillet symbol, bevel and double bevel symbol. Identify which side of the reference line is “Near”, and “Far”.)
- Ability To Pulse Mig And Tig 100 S Wire and use spray transfer and stick.
- Ability to identify base metal defects and weld defects
Roles and responsibilities:
- Assures that tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met. (Example: ventilation, lighting, safety equipment etc.).
- Assures that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written. (Example: fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.).
- Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
- Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc).
- Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs and etc.).
- Assures that clients Safety Procedures, including testing, are utilized for all torch work.
- Assures that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.
- Assures that a 30 minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
- Assures that personnel have work package and the necessary drawings, technical manuals, or specifications required for them to adequately accomplish their work assignments.
