Job Purpose:
The Dry-dock Machinist Mechanic J1 is responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safety, with the highest quality, in a professional manner. Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.
Job Description:
- Must have the ability to navigate a ship, the Dry-dock, and understand compartment designation.
- Must have knowledge and understanding of technical publications and drawings.
- Must be able to repair and/or install equipment using routine mechanical knowledge in conjunction with technical information and diagrams but needs to work with close supervision.
- Must understand the use of measuring instruments such as micrometer, tachometer, dial indicator and caliper.
- Be knowledgeable in the use of all common shop and hand tools.
- Must be able to perform duties required to prepare the drydock for a docking evolution, to include the fabrication, preparation and assembly of the drydock blocks but needs to work with close supervision.
- Must be able to perform drydocking evolution duties such as diesel engine watch and operation of other equipment as necessary but needs to work with close supervision.
- Must be able to perform drydock watch duties in accordance with the drydock operational procedures and instructions but needs to work with close supervision.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Must know what PPE to use and when.
